Nagl on top in Eastern Germany | | MX-Masters start |
KTM MX1 factory rider Max Nagl topped the podium in the ADAC MX Masters in Germany's Fürstlich Drehna thrilling the 12,000 fans that flocked to support their hero, the current MX1 vice-world champion. Max took victory in tough competition, relegating his MX1 world championship rivals Steve Ramon and Clement Desalle into the minor places. | | Winner Max Nagl chasing local boy Dennis Schröter |
Sunshine and good conditions made for a perfect racing setting south of Berlin at the sandy and twisty circuit. Indeed the technical terrain provided amply chance for preparation for the third round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, due to occur on a similar surface in Holland next week.
Belgian champion Desalle overtook holeshotting Suzuli team-mate Ramon in the first moto of the format that sees the MX1 and MX2 bikes mixed. The Belgian was able to escape for his first victory for the factory team in the German competition. Roczen was catching the Rockstar Teka Suzuki pair at one stage, which forced Desalle to up his pace. The German was not riding so comfortably across the sand and was passed by countryman Max Nagl by the flag, ending up fourth, while Ramon was second. Tonus made a bright start but crashed on the third corner and had to spend the rest of the moto recovering from last place to take 13th.
In the second sprint, Nagl fled unhindered to the finish line and earned the overall win. Ramon was a steady second place once again while Desalle slipped off entering the first corner and again made another mistake later in the race; he finished 5th as Roczen and Tonus had settled into the demands of the course and captured 3rd and 4th respectively.
Max Nagl: "I thought it was going to be a difficult race for me because Desalle and Ramon are usually very fast in sand. So I was quite surprised how good it went for me. After a bad start in the first race everything went according to plan in the second. These races were very good preparation for the next round of the world championships," he added.
"I was a bit tight with my riding in the first moto but I was happier with the second," commented 15-year-old starlet Roczen. "Most of all I can take some confidence from my start, which was an improvement over Mantova last week. This was a good event to do before Valkenswaard: The terrain is pretty similar, even if there are a lot of slow corners here and I couldn't really keep a high corner speed with the 250. It was pretty difficult to pass. Anyway, we go to Holland now and I'm looking forward to it." MX-Masters Overall
