Ken Roczen started slowly to fourth place in qualification at Glen Helen circuit. The 16 year old initially struggled to find his race-pace across a very long, rutty and hilly course after the first practice sessions were cancelled due to the severe gusts that battered the venue. | Photo by: Suzuki Press Office Ken Roczen |
The German, however, was able to experiment with some line selection in his effort to overtake Gautier Paulin and secure a slot that leaves him with a positive fourth-gate pick facing the very-long start-straight for tomorrow's GP motos. Arnaud Tonus moved up to eighth position in the Qualification Heat after passing Steven Frossard on the final lap. The stylish Swiss was lacking practice time after a suspension problem in the first laps of the day, but was able to work on stiffening the set-up and rode strongly in the Heat race itself. Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 will face some hot conditions tomorrow with temperatures expected to hit the mid thirties.
Ken Roczen: "I did not ride this week and maybe that was not so good because I struggled a little bit in the first practice today. My riding became better and better through the race and I am looking forward to tomorrow. It was pretty difficult to pass but I will keep my eyes open and will look for some more lines and chances to get through."
Arnaud Tonus: "I feel pretty good. I did not ride that much in the practice because we had a small problem with the bike but the race was fine. My start was 'so-so' but the first corner worked out well. I did my own race and overtook Frossard at the end; eighth place is fine for the gate. It is great to ride here. I was even smiling when I was going up the hill! There is a lot of compression for the suspension so we made it a bit harder and I'm happy with what we have for the race."
